The debate to have a money dance is one that most couples have before their big day. Some find it tacky to ask for money when guests are already bringing gifts. However more and more couples are paying for the majority of the wedding themselves and often find they are strapped when it comes time to head off to paradise on their honeymoon. The nice part of doing a money dance is you are not forcing Aunt Gertrude to fork over $20 bucks to dance with her new great nephew in law, it is 100% up to the guest to participate if he or she chooses. The amount is also up to the guest they can dance for $1 or $100 depending on how generous they are or how much money they have to burn. It is also nice to have a few seconds with the bride and groom before they are whisked away to cut the cake. Grooms rarely (at least from the weddings I have attended) dance with anyone other then the bride, their mother and sisters if they have any, this is a nice way of getting to dance with the groom without feeling awkward. It is ultimately up to the bride and groom, it is not uncommom though to have a money dance so don't feel bad if you choose to have it at your wedding.
